On the road again…

A big driving day today. We headed out from Kamloops a little after 9am, heading for Prince George. We almost missed one of the most amazing views I have seen in my life, simply because it was behind us.

Kamloops Lake Rest Area, put simply, hosts one of the most stunning views I have ever seen. Erin almost missed out on seeing it up-close, as the “Beware Rattlesnakes” sign spooked her. A short while later we pulled in to Deadmans Creek Ranch; a recreation of an old frontier town. While this is still being built, it was a short and interesting stop off.

Shortly after, we grabbed a brunch (technically an early lunch having not had breakfast..  is that the same thing?) at Hungry Herbies diner. A decent burger, pouting, and a coffee, and off we headed again.

The next stop was at 100 Mile House, where we saw the worlds largest cross country skis, video called Owen briefly, and stretched our legs for a while. The tourist centre in 100 Mile House has really put effort in to being a great place to pull over and rest.

Back on the road, and the plan was to stop at a corn maze after a few hours. However, heavy rain scuppered our plans (really glad we bought the tarpaulin for the truck) so a quick coffee stop was all we had time for.

Finally, we arrived at Prince George and went to have dinner with my cousin Roxi and her three kids. It was truly delightful to have a proper cooked meal, but even more delightful to see Roxi again (last time was in 2005) and meet her kids. As we ate, the heavens opened wider – thunder, lightning and rain – than they ever really get in England. We watched, and talked, and relaxed before heading to our hotel.
